Paul Pisano and I birded around DC this morning, joined by Gary  
Allport for the morning, as indicated in his previous post. Highlights  
included the two ducks mentioned in Gary's post, some very nice crow  
flocks at Kenilworth, and overall good diversity. The strangest  
sighting of the day was at the Aquatic Gardens, where we saw at least  
12 Purple Finches, feeding on the GROUND, in a SWAMP. There were two  
males and at least 10 females, flitting around on the ground and lower  
bushes for the five or so minutes that we watched them, mixing with  
White-throated Sparrows. Very odd.
