My wife discovered an unusual bird at our feeder in Beltsville, MD on
Feb. 9 - female Rose-breasted Grosbeak. It has returned several times
and I was able to get some pictures on the 10th. They can be viewed at
- http://dbolt.smugmug.com/Animals

Although the bird does exhibit several characteristics of a Black-headed
Grosbeak, most agree that it is an early female Rose-breasted Grosbeak.
I don't know when RBGB usually show up in our region, but I'm sure Feb.
9 is earlier than expected.

The webcam associated with my weather station usually displays a wide
angle view of the backyard, but it is now pointed in the direction of
the feeder. The resolution is not great, but it was good enough that I
discovered the bird at the feeder again this morning. The link is -
http://boltassociates.com/weather/wx.htm If you happen to see it,
please drop me a note indicating the time you spotted the bird -
