John Hubbell and I spent the day birding today in mostly St. Mary's
County, joining up with Kyle Rambo for a couple enjoyable hours in the
morning. The birding was great, starting off with a few woodcock, and
continuing through the day to end with some good ducks in Upper
Marlboro.
Highlights were many, but some of the better ones among 77 species
were 13 Rusty Blackbirds behind the Wildewood Shopping Center in
California (MD) along Route 235, a great duck show at Beauvue Ponds,
headlined by a couple Northern Shovelers, a closeout for John!
Also nice to see, especially for a northerner like me, were a couple
Forster's Terns in Leonardtown. Terns in winter!? What is this, Florida?
The Greater White-fronted Goose was not present at Solomons around
1230 today. Other places we visited but didn't turn up anything of
note included Jug Bay and Schoolhouse Pond.
