I am posting this at the request of Chris Swarth.

Sue Ricciardi, Arnold, MD

On February 25, 2009, at 2:30 pm we observed 1,140 Redheads about 1/4 mile west of Upper Hooper Island, Dorchester County. The birds were strung out in a line that extended in a north-south direction for about 3/4 of a mile. The flock consisted entirely of Redheads, except for a single canvasback. Viewing conditions through spotting scopes were good, bay waters were fairly calm, and most of the birds had their heads out so it was quite easy to see the drake's bright red head. This is one of the largest flocks of Redheads ever seen by several of us on the Chesapeake Bay.
Observers: Chris Swarth, Dotty Mumford, Harry Coulombe, Sandy Teliak and others.
