Greetings to all. I worked at home today due to winter storm and was thankful for the beautiful weather; and also thankful it was harsh on only some of our vegetation (which took a major beating at the last couple of winter storms). It should only take about an hour this weekend to clean up the debris! The birds were hectic as expected, with our highest finch count ever (100+) at our feeders here. I had to refill at 3:00 pm, and estimate the birds ate 6.5 pounds of thistle today (all species). No estimate for sunflower and suet, but they emptied two sunflower feeders by 1 pm and I had to refill. The other hopper feeders I stopped keeping track of since the blackbirds etc raid them and can empty them in no time at all. Birds seen at home were all observed from inside house (the only time I got out was to shovel some snow and I was not birdwatching then)! List below includes numbers for most individuals seen at one time for each species. Waterfowl, gulls and shorebirds were at Patuxent River at Jug Bay.
