Yesterday evening (Thursday, March 5) I saw at least 2, probably 3,
displaying AMERICAN WOODCOCKS at Tipton Airfield in northern
Anne Arundel County. The birds first started "peenting" in the scrubby
woods on the north side of the road around 6:25 PM. A few minutes later
they flew out over the field on the south side. I watched until about
6:40 PM. To get there: take Rte. 198 east from the
Baltimore-Washington Parkway to the traffic light at Airport Road.
Turn right. When the road ends in a T, turn right again. Park on
the right shoulder about half-way down the road.
