I saw my first (flock of 3) meadowlarks in the fields south of Burkittsville in S FRED CO yesterday afternoon. Also the first of year robins (to my knowledge) were present in the yard trees at home. Also, the thistle feeders were less depleted than usual yesterday eve; i won't get a "read" on whether or not that is significant in terms of fewer siskins until the weekend.

Two pairs of NIH geese were staking claim to the top of BLDG 31 this morning, but all is quiet now.

Unusual "Lists"
It occurred to me that i have an unusual (unique?) list - POKED BIRDS. One was an NIH goose that was a little slow getting out of the walkway a couple years ago, so i poked it to hurry it up. It lost all its dignity for a moment, but seemed to recover. The other was the E Screech owl that i reported on on MDOsprey that i came upon in the middle of the road one evening a month or more ago. I drove right up to it and when it still didn't move, got out of the car and poked it, which was stimulus enough for it to gather itself and fly off the road into the bushes...
