Greetings,
Today I went by Oxbow Lake near Laurel to check to see if the Trumpeter Swan
was in the area. When I arrived, I observed 2 swans on the lake; one was an
actively feeding Tundra Swan and the other one was sleeping. The birds were
in close proximity to each other and the sleeping bird seemed to be
structurally larger than the Tundra Swan. It's body seemed larger and
longer, it's neck seemed thicker and what I could see of the head also
appeared to be heftier. At no time did the second swan wake up, but from
what I could see, I took it to be the Trumpeter Swan. After I contacted Jim
Stasz and Marcia Stutzman, I learned that the Trumpeter Swan hasn't been
seen on the lake in about 3 weeks and that now leaves doubts in my mind.
Has anyone else been by the lake in the last couple of days and observed
these birds? If so what were their flavors?
Thanks,
Ed Boyd
