Some birds seen or heard around midday on March 9 in Howard County: one White-winged Crossbill, its calls sounding like they were coming from Norway Spruce trees along Font Hill Drive just north of Carrigan Drive (at the NW corner of the intersection). Pine Siskins, House Finches and American Goldfinches were also in this vicinity. A female Yellow-bellied Sapsucker was at Font Hill Park near the park entrance. A Red-shouldered Hawk with a snake in its talons flew into a tree by the pond next to Font Hill Drive. I also saw two Pine Siskins at our home feeder in Columbia and again heard the Eastern Phoebe which had arrived yesterday.
