Subject: YMOS BIRDATHON

This year the MD Ornithological Society will participate in the World Series of Birding through two YMOS teams. The WSOB itself will take place at Cape May, NJ, on Saturday, 9 May 2009.?
?
The YMOS High School team is conducting an "Welcome Spring" Birdathon this coming weekend (21 and 22 March) as a fund raiser to at least partially cover the costs of registration and lodging. Funds raised will be shared with the YMOS Middle School team as well. The former is coached by Wayne Bell, the latter by George Radcliffe. Parents and coaches are generously volunteering their time and travel costs. Both teams have had 11 official field training trips on Delmarva since early August 2008 and logged a total of 191 species to date. Two HS team members also assisted with the MOS display at the recent annual meeting of the MD Association of Environmental and Outdoor Educators (MAEOE) in Ocean City.?
?
The Birdathon will cover only locations of MD's Eastern Shore, from the Atlantic Coast to Chesapeake Bay to the C&D Canal. Every bird must be seen or heard by at least two HS team members to be counted. We have compiled a "must see" list of 100 species (see below). Every species missed on this list must be made up by two off-list species in order to be counted toward our fund raising total. Our goal is at least 100 species totaled as above; we ask donors to double their per-species pledge for every species above 100 in our corrected total.?
?
We seek base line pledges of 5 cents, 10 cents, or 25 cents per species which we believe will translate into support of at least $5, $10, or $25 per donor if we meet our goals. We only seek pledges at this time. Please email your commitment to either Wayne Bell <> and/or George Radcliffe <> as a brief response to this message. We will report back as to how we did and the individual donor obligations based on our performance. Thank you in advance for your generosity. We hope to do the MOS proud!?
?
Sincerely yours -- Amanda Spears, captain; Christina Brinster; Zach Gent; Matt Anthony?
