Halethorpe Ponds 3/15/09

I have visited the Halethorpe Ponds in Baltimore Co. repeatedly the last
few weeks and the signs of spring are slowly increasing. While the number
of waterfowl are steadily decreasing, the variety is increasing. Here is
the complete list from today:

Canada Goose -- 5
Mallard -- 4
Gadwall -- 22
Green-winged Teal -- 2 (1 pair, FOS)
Northern Shoveler -- 4 (2 pairs up from 1M 2 weeks ago)
Ring-necked Duck -- 4M (down from max. 15 3 weeks ago)
Common Merganser -- 6 (3 pairs, FOS)
Hooded Merganser -- 2 (1 pair, down from 3 pairs 3 weeks ago)
Great Blue Heron -- 2 (FOS)
Double-creasted Cormorant -- 8 (FOS)
Pied-billed Grebe -- 3
Bald Eagle -- 1 adult (ever present, female incubating?)
WILSON'S SNIPE -- 1 (flushed by my dogs along the shore, FOS)
Ring-billed Gull -- 3
Belted Kingfisher -- 2
Pileated Woodpecker -- 2
Red-bellied Woodpecker -- 1
Hairy Woodpecker -- 1
Downy Woodpecker -- 2
Mourning Dove -- 4
Carolina Wren -- 6
American Crow -- 3
Tufted Titmouse -- 2
Carolina Chickadee -- 4
