Today (3/20) around 9AM, I saw the continuing Red-necked Grebe at Lake Elkhorn. It was swimming and diving close to the dam and appears to be coming into breeding plumage. I also spotted an American Kestrel flying north over nearby Brokenland Parkway. Later in the morning at Meadowbrook Park there were six Savannah Sparrows in the grass near the west pavilion. Today at sunset around the pond upstream of Lake Elkhorn, there was a male Belted Kingfisher that had caught a large fish. He was positioning it for easier swallowing. Also at the pond I also saw two Eastern Phoebes fly catching and heard the sweet song of a Fox Sparrow. Yesterday there were two Pine Siskins in our yard.
