Today is very finchy outside. The feeder has a flock of Goldfinches, a
couple of brown Purple Finches, a couple of Pine Siskins, and House Finches.
Juncos still abound (one seems to be missing a tail feather because one side
of the tail is very white) but there aren't too many White-throated
Sparrows. A Brown Creeper has been at the suet, which is always nice.

For the past few days two American Crows have visited the feeder, checking
out what's on the ground beneath it. I saw one of them pick up a sunflower
seed, fly to a branch, tuck the seed between its toes and then peck it open,
just like a Chickadee! In general I like crows, but last year they harassed
our resident Red-tails to the point where I don't think they were able to
nest. Right now the crows are just pecking at the seed like a pair of
chickens, and squabbling.
