Last weekend, 3/21 - 3/22, the YMOS team (including Wayne Bell-coach, Amanda Spears-captain, Christina Brinster and Zach Gent) held a bird-a-thon to raise money for our trip to this year's WSB.? We?birded Maryland's Eastern Shore,?covering 8 counties, the lower shore (Somerset, Wicomico, Worcester, Dorchester) for 15?hours Saturday and?the upper shore (Talbot, Kent, Caroline, Queen Anne's) for 11 hours Sunday.? There was no scouting done by the team.?For the fundraising, we made up a total of 100 species that were "must sees".

The bird-a-thon was a success, turning out 132 species and missing only 6 species on the "must see" list (leaving out the logistics, we made $ on 120 species).? Luck was on our side,?giving us species we didn't?plan to get, including King and Common?Eiders, Red-necked Grebe, American Bittern, Golden Eagle, Merlin, Long-eared Owl, Lesser Black-backed Gull (found at Skimmer Island, Salisbury Landfill, and Tanyard Marsh), Iceland Gull, Vesper Sparrow, and Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow.? Big misses included Northern Bobwhite, Bonaparte's Gull, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Pileated Woodpecker, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, and Cedar Waxwing.
List below includes the locations, in order,?where bird species were added.
