At 8:30 an adult Great Cormorant flew downstream past Violettes Lock. It gave
a fine view of its large head and thick straight neck, yellow facial skin
surrounded by a broad band of white feathering, and the large oblong white patch
on the rear flanks. With a strong tailwind it was flying like a cormorant out
of hell, and was out of sight in less than a minute.

I remember one previous Great Cormorant for Montgomery, an immature at Little
Seneca Res. on 22 April 1994, but I think there have been other reports.

Birds moving upriver included 170 Bonaparte's Gulls, 400 Ring-bills, 3
Herrings, 200 Cormorants, some loitering, and a Cliff Swallow among all the Trees
and Barns.
