Location: Oxbow Lake
Observation date: 4/9/09
Notes: Jay Sheppard found the American Bittern twice from two different observations areas. The bittern was in the same area (east side of peninsula in/near the inlet channel) where he found it on Apr 7. We watched from the Big Pool Bluff area and from the southern trail. Directions for southern trail are from Oxbow Place take trail to left, at bottom of first hill there is an opening to the right where you look out over the lake. The bittern was mid-way on the eastern edge of the peninsula that juts out into the lake from the northern shore. Look in the cattails. Over my lunch hour, had a 4 foot Black Snake in the northeastern corner while looking for the bittern at lake level there.
