Does anybody happen to know much about the current status of the river otter
in MD? I'm talking mainly about distribution and population.

I just saw what I believe to be 4 otters in the lake across the road.
No, they weren't beavers. Those have been around here for years but none
have ever stuck their head up out of water and woofed(?) at me. Later I saw
them leave the water, at a distance, and they sure looked like otters to me.
The tails were not flat.

I'm a bit taken aback by this. This is a suburban area in N. Carroll
County and I didn't think they were around.

Please answer off list. This is a bird list, not mammals.
