I posted earlier that I saw a Cattle Egret at the 'Potomac bridge' of
the Tidal Basin, and I have had a couple requests for details on just
which bridge I mean. I identify the Potomac Bridge as the arched bridge
where the Tidal Basin drains directly into the Potomac. It's the bridge
where buses stop so tourists can take pictures of the Jefferson
Memorial. These tourists will have their backs to the Egret. They
should get their priorities straight: the egret will not be there long,
but the Memorial will be!
The other bridges associated with the Tidal Basin are called (by me,
anyway) the Washington Channel bridge (where the Tidal Basin drains into
the Washington Channel, this is often not recognized as a bridge at all)
and Ohio Ave bridge, which actually crosses the basin.
So anyway, the egret (at 1:00 PM, anyway) was on the northwest side
of the Potomac Bridge,
