I took a drive down Rt 107 towards White's Ferry and than down River Rd
through Patton Turf farm this morning to check puddles and wet fields.
Only shorebirds I could turn up were Greater Yellowlegs and Killdeer.
There were 3 Greater Yellowlegs in wet area in last field on right along
Rt 107 just before you get to White's Ferry. Had 5 more GRYLs at polo
grounds. Of note along Patton Turf Farm fields were Bonaparte's Gulls
and a single Caspian Tern.
Between 2-3 pm took a quick trip over to Violette's Lock. Ran into Dave
Czaplak who was just leaving and alerted me to the presence of 2
White-winged Scoters and 2 Surf Scoters plus a Long-tailed Duck and tons
of swallows. Dave said he had all 6 swallow species. I could only find
5, failing to pick out a Purple Martin. Thankfully, some of the swallows
were briefly resting on a mid river snag so I could more easily ID 3
Bank Swallows and 1 Cliff Swallow.
Good birding,
Andy Martin
