I went to Tuckahoe with the Steiner Peregrines MIddle School WSB Team this
afternoon. We were pleasantly surprized at the number of birds singing
during the afternoon. Among the highlights:
Louisiana Waterthrush - several
Northern Waterthrush - seen and heard
Chestnut Sided Warbler - heard
Ovenbird - many
Palm Warbler - 1
Pronothonotary Warbler - at least 2 - spectacular views of one bird along
Tuckahoe Creek.
Yellow Warbler - 1
Northern Parula - 1
Pine Warbler - several at the playground
Hermit Thrush - 3
Wood Thrush -1
At the pond by the Lake were 3 Green Herons flying around and being very
vocal. Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, Phoebees, Field Sparrows and White-eyed
Vireos were singing and plentiful.
At one point, the girls and I separated at the pond by the Lake. When we
got back together, we practically said simultaneously "Did you hear that?"
We discussed the possibility of both of us hearing 'fitz-bew' for a Willow
Flycatcher. I said possible but they were more positive than I was.
A wonderful afternoon in the field.
