Hughes Hollow. Lots of activity although few warblers but for a Common Yellowthroat , heard Northern Parula and numerous Prarie Warblers, these as usual at the intersection of Hughes and River Road. Of particular interest was a juvenile Red-headed Woodpecker, beautiful view, seen close, perched, face on, from the cross-dike. Odd since Sibley indicates that plummage only from July to February, Also at Hughes Hollow, Yellow-throated Vireos, Orchard and Baltimore Orioles, 2 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher nests with adult birds, Indigo Buntings, Song Sparrows, White-throated Sparrows, a Brown-thrasher, an Acadian Flycatcher, Eastern Phoebes, Countless Tree Swallows and Red-winged Blackbirds. In addition, Red-shouldered Hawk, Green Herons, Great Blue Herons, Hooded Mergansers, Pied-billed Grebes, Wood Duck, and Mallard. At Riley's Lock, Prothonatory Warblers, Bluebirds, Yellow-billed Cuckoo and Great-crested Flycatchers. |
