just wanted to thank Wallace and everyone else from "the yard" for
posting all the wondrous creatures streaming through. this season I am
resting a bit after a dumb bike accident and a broken collarbone.so I am
enjoying the migration (and those yellow rails tales) vicariously.

until today, I might have been disdainful of reports of nice but not
rare birds appearing in ones yard. my afternoon was greatly brightened
by a male rose-breasted grosbeak on our feeder just now; this builds on
the blue-gray gnatcatcher that was also a yard first during my
recovery. and one beautiful day weeks earlier, with house guests as
witnesses we had two pileated woodpeckers drop by and ignore the crow
trying to mob it away. someone is definitely looking down on me.
