Caroline & Talbot County - Sunday Morning (May 3)

I made an unsuccessful attempt to listen for nightjars before daylight on Hog Island Road in Caroline County on Sunday morning. I had no luck; it was probably too wet. I then spent an hour at the end of Hog Island Rd. Barred and Great Horned Owls, Wild Turkey and Marsh Wrens were heard before daylight. After once again checking out the Tanyard marsh ( Rt. 331) I moved over into Talbot County looking for warblers at various creek crossings. I then finished the morning with a visit on the Caroline County side of Tuckahoe St. Pk. The following is an abridged list of birds seen/heard throughout the rainy morning:

CAROLINE COUNTY

HOG ISLAND ROAD 

Wood Duck
Wild Turkey
Barred Owl
Great Horned Owl
E. Kingbird
Marsh Wren
Wood Thrush
Common Yellow throat
Field Sparrow
(all of the above were heard before daylight)

Species seen on Hog Island Road included one each of Brown Thrasher, Worm-eating Warbler, Grasshopper Sparrow and Blue Grosbeak
