Dear All
With apologies for the belated post a quick note to add in a few birds that I don't think have been picked up in the various reports.
A small group of us visited the DC Arboretum on Saturday morning (after failing on the King Rail at KAG as Paul reported last night), which was good with a usual selection of migrants but notably two singing Cape Mays one of which showed quite well, an early Blackpoll and three Rose-breasted Grosbeaks. We saw nine spp of warbler and other groups added another two spp.
I then had another Cape May singing around our house in Van Ness later on Saturday, which was nice. Unfortunately I couldn't quite hear it from the garden. Ah well.
I wasn't able to get out for the Catbird fall at Hains on Sunday but a friend of mine - Jack Tordoff - did see a couple of additional warblers at RCP late in the morning including a Tenessee in the Maintenance Yard Car Park and a Blue-wing too.
Again there were lots of birds around the house yesterday morning but I was not able to get out. Another colleague saw 8 warbler spp in a cycle ride along the Potomac - Prothonotary (1), Worm-eating (1) on Roosevelt Isl, Black-throated Blue (1), Myrtle (5), Parula (4), La. Waterthrush (1), No. Waterthrush (2), Ovenbird (2) - plus 5 Bobolinks in the grass at Gravelly Pt.
This morning there were about 40 Cedar Waxwings around the house and a couple of Barn Swallows have flown past the office in central DC, so things are humming along nicely.
Tum tee tum...
