Subject: Poplar Island Sightings from May 11-12, 2009

This report is submitted on behalf of Jan Reese of Talbot County, who
continues to periodically survey the flora and fauna of the Paul Sarbanes
Ecosystem Restoration Project at Poplar Island. The May 11 sightings were
found by a group of birders that were visiting the island. The May 12
sightings were by Jan Reese during one of the regular surveys of the season.
Some of the birds were seen from the boat during the trip from
Tilghman Island and back.
Note particularly the presence of Least Bittern, Blue-winged Teal,
Sora, Northern Harrier, White-rumped Sandpiper Purple Sandpiper, Stilt
Sandpiper, and large numbers of Black-bellied Plover and Semipalmated
Sandpiper.
