Greetings, I forgot to mention that during my run yesterday in Watkins
Park I spotted a Least Flycatcher. I didn't have my binocs but was
able to study this bird at about 10 meters. Too small to be an Acadian
or Willow Flycatcher and in the dry, brushy, mature hardwood
environment he should have been in. From talking to other birders and
looking at the range maps this is a pretty good bird for this area.
The bird was very close to the maintence yard. Watkins Park is usually
accessed by Watkins Park Drive but there is an access road on that
side of the park that can be accessed only on foot from Wimbleton St.
(12100 block?). A very short block off of Wimbleton called Park Place
(about 20 meters long) leads to the maintenance yard. The maintenance
yard is only about 200 meters from the entrance. THe flycatcher was
seen along the right side of the road in an area 20 to 70 meters
before you get to the maintenance yard. He sat pretty low from 12 ft
to just above the ground. If anybody wants better directions contact
me off list.
