I have an overgrown grape arbor in my backyard and the brown thrashers for
the second year in a row have made their nest there. Today I look down back
and see a large brown thing on the ground and a brown thrasher is attacking
it. The brown thrasher attacked it's back, then grabbed it's tail and
lifted it off the ground. At that point it's head raised up and I could
tell it was a groundhog. This attack continued for several minutes the
groundhog never reacting in any way. Then the groundhog went into the old
chicken run stayed a couple minutes and then was back on the lawn eating
clovers. This continued for over half an hour with the brown thrasher
getting in the groundhog's face, attacking it's back and tail and displaying
it's wings wide open. Looks like they best make friends as it appears the
groundhog has young also. Has anyone else seen this happen before?
