Hi Folks,

It was a good day in Kent Co., highlighted by the REEVE at Remington Pond
off of Ricauds Branch Rd. When I arrived there at 7:20 this morning, I was
astounded to see over 1000 shorebirds spread across the shallow water. One
of my first finds was a STILT SANDPIPER in not quite breeding plumage with
barring apparent on the belly and flanks. After the first scan I lost this
bird, and assume it went to the back of the pond or elsewhere out of sight.
I also picked up a WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, and then I hit on four
Dowitchers. With them was a similar sized bird that was feeding
sewing-machine style, but this bird was different, with a smaller head and
much shorter bill. I thought it was a Ruff, but having little experience
with this bird, I wanted confirmation before getting the word out. I tried
to call Walter Ellison and Nancy Martin without success, so eventually left
to try to get a call through. I ended up birding the refuge and then
returned to the pond before making contact with Walter, and I was delighted
that he and Nancy had seen the bird, and taken notes on it, confirming that
it was a female REEVE.

I spent most of the day in the county, including a couple hours at the E.
Neck NWR; I had no finds of the magnitude of the shorebirds, but some birds
might be of interest to county listers. They include:

Snow Goose--1 in pond on Langford Rd.
Ruddy Duck--2 at John Hanson Rd. lagoons
Red-shouldered Hawk--one along Bradford Johnson Rd. in wet bottomland
(Millington area)
Black-bellied Plover--about 45 in a field on E. Neck Island Rd., about a
mile north of refuge; I counted 19, and then a flock of about two dozen more
came in
Solitary Sandpiper--1 at refuge; county closeout #101
Least Tern--at least 4 over Roses store in Chestertown
Yellow-billed Cuckoo--only one, behind visitor center on refuge
Pileated Woodpecker--1 along Black Bottom Rd.
Yellow-throated Vireo--2 (one on Walnut Tree Rd. at Cypress Branch bridge;
one along Black Bottom Rd.)
Warbling Vireo--2 along Langford Rd. at stream crossings
Prothonotary Warbler--2 (one at Peacock Corner Rd. at Andover Branch; one on
Walnut Tree Rd. at Cypress Branch--the grafitti bridge)
Worm-eating Warbler--1 along Black Botton Rd.
Blackpoll Warbler--2 in Chestertown and 2 on refuge
Louisiana Waterthrush--1 along Black Bottom Rd.--county closeout #102
Scarlet Tanager--1 along Hurlock Corner Rd. (Millington area)
E. Meadowlark--2 at Remington Pond
