Dear all: A last-day-of-May birding excursion to Middle Patuxent Environmental Area in Howard County produced a nice batch of birds, with great looks at many of them as we arrived at 8:30 am, just after the rains stopped, staying until 10:15am:

_ Veery (2, heard)
_ Wood Thrush (h)
_ Scarlet Tanager (h)
_ Acadian Flycatcher
_ Eastern Wood-Pewee
_ Great-Crested Flycatcher (h)
_ Cedar Waxwing
_ Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher
_ Common Yellowthroat (3)
_ Ovenbird (2, h)
_ White-Eyed Vireo
_ Red-Eyed Vireo
_ Indigo Bunting (3)
_ American Goldfinch (4)
_ House Finch (adult feedng 4 immatures)
_ Eastern Bluebird (2+ adult, 1 imm)
_ Tree Swallow (2, one in nest box, one on top)
_ Chimney Swift (2)
_ Gray Catbird (h)
_ Pileated Woodpecker
_ Red-Bellied Woodpecker (h)
_ Downy Woodpecker (h)
_ House Wren (2+)
_ Carolina Wren (h)
_ Eastern Towhee (h)
_ Common Grackle
_ Blue Jay
_ Northern Cardinal
_ Mourning Dove (h)
_ Carolina Chickadee
_ Tufted Titmouse (h)

We thought we caught a brief glimpse of our target bird, Blue-Winged Warbler, but did not want to be overly intrusive, as they are reported nesting there.

Good Birding!
