My wife and I drove by the large rain puddle on "Old River Rd." a
couple of miles south of White's Ferry, Montgomery County, at about
11 a.m. this morning, June 2. This is the area about which Andy
Martin posted on June 1. It is on the property of the Patton Turf
Farm, but the gravel road is public. (Watch for sod trucks.)

Alas, no White-rumped or Semipalmated Sandpipers and no Dunlin
today. However, there were 2 Killdeer and 4 very well camouflaged
SEMIPALMATED PLOVER. This puddle will likely stay around for days
yet, especially since we are forecast to have more rainstorms. So it
could pay to keep looking here. The turf on this farm is extensive,
but had no obvious shorebirds. (My scope is still out for repair so
it was hard to check the farthest reaches of the fields.)

There is also a large rain puddle along Sugarland Rd., right by the
road in a field midway between Montevideo Rd. and the entrance to
Homestead Farm, a popular pick-your-own fruit place. There were no
shorebirds there this morning but I have seen peep and Yellowlegs at
this spot in previous years. Again, there's a fair amount of water
there that should persist for many days yet. As Andy pointed out
yesterday, shorebirding is not one of our most notable boasts here in
Montgomery, so every wader tends to cause moderate to great excitement!
