This is the Voice of the Naturalist, a service of the Audubon Naturalist
Society. This corrected report was completed Wednesday, June 10 at 10:30 pm.

Top birds this week are BLACK-BELLIED WHISTLING DUCK* in DE and MD,
YELLOW-NOSED ALBATROSS* in MD, and WHITE-FACED IBIS* in VA.

Other birds of interest include AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN, waterfowl,
MISSISSIPPI KITE, BLACK-NECKED STILT, RED KNOT, FRANKLIN'S GULL, RED-HEADED
WOODPECKER, flycatchers, warblers, sparrows, and DICKCISSEL.

Eight BLACK-BELLIED WHISTLING-DUCKS* were flying close to Selby Landing, Jug
Bay, Anne Arundel Co, MD on June 2 and Wootens Landing at Jug Bay on June 4.
The BLACK-BELLIED WHISTLING DUCK at Silver Lake, Rehoboth, DE continues with
a sighting on June 2.

A YELLOW-NOSED ALBATROSS* was reported flying north above the oversand
vehicle zone on Assateague Island, Worcester Co, MD on June 6.
   
A WHITE-FACED IBIS* was found among a group of GLOSSY IBIS at Chincoteague
NWR, Accomack Co, VA on June 7.

An AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN was seen at Blackwater NWR, Dorchester Co, MD on
June 2. Another WHITE PELICAN flew over the Waynewood area of Fairfax Co, VA
on June 7.

Waterfowl sightings include a RED-BREASTED MERGANSER at Fort Smallwood, Anne
Arundel Co, MD on June 2 and another at Dyke Marsh, Fairfax Co, VA on June
7. A female HOODED MERGANSER and five young were swimming at McKee-Beshers
WMA, Montgomery Co, MD on June 6. Two GREATER SCAUP were spotted in the
Potomac River from Dyke Marsh, Fairfax Co, VA on June 7. A RUDDY DUCK was
swimming at Silver Lake, Rehoboth, DE on June 2. 

A sub-adult MISSISSIPPI KITE flew over Waynewood in southeast Fairfax Co, VA
on June 7.

Several pairs of BLACK-NECKED STILTS were reported from Fowler Beach, DE on
June 2.

The RED KNOTS at Mispillion, Sussex Co, DE have largely moved north.
About 150 were seen at the DuPont Nature Center on June 2.
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER were present in fewer numbers. RUDDY TURNSTONE
sightings continued. 

A FRANKLIN'S GULL showed at Hains Point in Washington DC, on June 6.

Three RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS were reported in Carroll Co, MD on June 6 - one
along Ruggles Road and two close to Keysville Road. RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS
were at Sky Meadows SP, Fauquier Co, VA on June 6.

Flycatcher reports have included a WILLOW FLYCATCHER on Gorsuch Switch Road
in Carroll Co, MD on June 6; a WILLOW FLYCATCHER in Lois Green Park,
Montgomery Co, MD on June 7; and another at the Blue Ridge Center for
Environmental Stewardship, Loudon Co, VA on June 6. An ALDER FLYCATCHER was
reported at Finzel Swamp, Garrett Co, MD on June 7.

Warbler reports have included fewer migrants but strong numbers in the
western areas of our region. Trips to Garrett Co, MD, and Allegany Co, MD on
June 6 and 7 yielded over 20 species of warblers including a GOLDEN-WINGED
WARBLER at Finzel Swamp in Garrett Co plus CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, NORTHERN
WATERTHRUSH, YELLOW WARBLER, BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER, BLACK-THROATED
GREEN WARBLER and others.
A trip to Sky Meadows SP in Fauquier Co, VA on June 6 had CERULEAN WARBLER,
HOODED WARBLER, KENTUCKY WARBLER, REDSTART, CHAT, and others.
Two CERULEAN WARBLERS were close to Port Depot Road and Route 222 in Cecil
Co, MD on June 3. PRAIRIE WARBLERS were found in Lois Green Park in
Montgomery Co, MD on June 7 and Little Bennett Park in Montgomery Co, MD on
June 7. A KENTUCKY WARBLER was reported in Little Bennett Park, Montgomery
Co, MD on June 7.

A VESPER SPARROW was reported on Mt. Nebo Road, Montgomery Co, MD on June 6.
Another VESPER SPARROW was seen on Harney Road in Frederick Co, MD on June
6. A NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED SPARROW was reported at Truitt's Landing,
Worcester Co, MD on June 3. SEASIDE SPARROWS and SALTMARSH SHARP-TAILED
SPARROWS were reported at Truitt's Landing on June 4. SEASIDE SPARROWS were
at Blackwater NWR, Dorchester Co, MD on June 2.
 
Two DICKCISSELS were found in a White Marsh Cemetery field close to Easton,
Talbot Co, MD on June 8.
