Lee reports this morning, from the Marumsco house, Somerset Co., a Cooper's Hawk preying on our 3-house Purple Martin colony. With much flapping, the hawk hangs by its talons from the perch outside the nest hole and pokes its head in the hole to see if it is occupied. After gaining balance it pokes a foot inside and extracts a bird. It's done this at least twice. The martins are extremely perturbed (so are we, but there's nothing to be done).
