I agree with George.  Living in inner city Baltimore, Mockingbirds and squirrels are common neighbors.  My resident Mockingbird does a great squirrel call....especially when it's harrassing neighborhood cats, squirrels and even people who try to come into my yard when the serviceberries are ripe.  Woe to any critter who wants to eat the berries or even seed at the nearby feeder....my yard is a dead zone for other birds until those berries are gone.

It could be that the Mockingbird knows that squirrels can be predators to eggs and young,  and is mimicking to keep other animals, including squirrels, away.

Just a thought.
