Yesterday I drove from Pocomoke to see the Roseate Spoonbill in DE. I
arrived at Catch 54 around 11 am and met up with Maurice and Andy, two DE
birders. We spent some time searching without success till lunch. we ate at
Catch 54 which had wonderful food. Our seats had a great view of the marsh
that the Roseate Spoonbill was seen the day before. While eating my fish
sandwich we saw the pink bird fly into view and land in the marsh were it was
out of view for a few minutes. By the time I finished my lunch it flew
toward us and landed in a privet property behind the condos. We then walked
to the spot where the Spoonbill landed and met a few residents admiring the
bird. We were only a few feet from the Spoonbill and had great looks and
took good pictures of the bird. A few hours past and the Spoonbill decided
to hunt for food and flew to the marsh north of Catch 54 and started
feeding. Later if flew across the channel and disappeared into the marsh grass. I
stayed until 6 pm in hopes that the bird would fly to MD but no luck
there. On my way out I saw Bill Hubick and company looking at the Spoonbill
from the bridge.
I just got word from Maurice that the Roseate Spoonbill was seen early
Friday morning in MD down near the end of Madison Ave. where it goes south
across the highway from the Catch 54.
