With the propensity for these birds to head north, this bodes well for a northward surge to Assateague?!

The black-billed Great Egret continues at Chincoteague, reported as recently as
yesterday and noted during the week by Fenton Day and Audrey Whitlock. Fenton
also indicated that three parties had reported 2 Roseate Spoonbills on the
Wildlife Loop on Sunday 5 July (no other reports); I did not see them there 2
July and they apparently did not remain there long, as they were not reported
subsequently.? On crossing Fisherman Island 9 July, I saw a group of 6 birds
that could have been juvenile spoonbills in the distance, but distance and
traffic (and the law) conspired to keep them "unidentified." There is a fairly
substantial "flight" of the species going on at the moment, so we should take a
second look at all of our wading birds, anywhere in the state.
