Pectoral Sandpiper - North Branch C&O Canal, Allegany Co.

Last night 7/31 and this morning 8/1, I checked for shorebirds at the tarps
at C&O Canal North Branch just south of Cumberland. There was better
diversity and numbers last night, not that the either was overwhelming, as
you can see below. The best find on both days was PECTORAL SANDPIPER with 1
last night and 2 this morning. Also, last night, after moving to the towpath
for better viewing (through the vegetation), I heard a warbler chip and was
able to catch a few glimpses of a WORM-EATING warbler right behind me. I
suspect this was either an early migrant or a dispersing juvenile since
there isn't nearly enough contiguous or mature forest at North Branch for
this to be a breeder.
