On our way to the beach this morning, Wednesday 8/19, we stopped off
at Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center (aka Horsehead) in Queen
Anne's County to look for water birds and shorebirds. We were not
disappointed. After having to take several minutes to repeatedly
wipe moisture off our optics, which fogged over immediately after
leaving the car, we eventually could see clearly into the large,
drying up pond north of the visitor center area, in excellent morning light.

Highlights were:

GLOSSY IBIS 1
Greater Yellowlegs 3
Lesser Yellowlegs 50
Pectoral Sandpiper 18
Least Sandpiper 1
Semipalmated Sandpiper 14
Western Sandpiper 2
White-rumped Sandpiper 1
Killdeer 12
Semipalmated Plover 8
Snowy Egret 5
Great Egret 1
Great Blue Heron 1

There was also a big group of ducks, maybe about 50, all Mallards
except for 3 Black Ducks and 2 Wood Ducks. The peep numbers above
are probably underestimates.

Passerines were well nigh invisible. It was HOT!
