We tried for the Black Terns on Saturday afternoon - no luck. However, I am writing to ask that people give a little bit more direction about where they were. Granted, birds move, but it helps to have some clue about where to start. So for a site on the canal, for instance, at least say "walk upstream" or "walk downstream" and approximately how far (1/2 miles, or 10 minutes, or a landmark). We think that for Violette's Lock, it might be obvious. When you walk downstream, you don't have a view of the river for some distance, but when you walk upstream, you almost immediately get to a small path that gives you excellent views of a large area of river. So that's what we tried, but we wished we'd known where the people who did see the terns had gone.

For other sightings, species, it might be even more of a guess, without some help from the reporter....

Thanks, all.
