I wanted clarify some misconceptions. I am still the contact person for
Hart-Miller Island. You have not seen many bird posts from me this year,
but I have been going to the island regularly. This year I have been doing
native bee surveys on Hart-Miller Island twice a month. This is a project
that Sam Droege got me started doing. That is why most bird surveys this
year have been posted by Kevin Graff.
Maryland Environmental Service currently is not working weekends so there is
no boat to the island on Saturdays. Alternately, a maximum of six birders
are allowed to go on Mondays when there is no boat for the previous
Saturday. This will continue until approximately mid-September when weekend
boats start again. At that point Monday access will cease. Weekend boats
should be running through December.
Contact me directly (not through a friend of a friend) by Thursday evening
if you wish to go to the island. If there is a Saturday boat, there is room
for 15 birders; if there is the Monday boat instead, there is only room for
6 birders. Thanks.
