I arrived about 4:30 today to find Dan Small parked just south of the house. He thought he had seen the bird fly across the road into the line of trees to the south east, but his hands were full of veg and he couldn't raise his bins. We strolled down there and had a look, no luck, then strolled back and Dan thought he saw the bird again. He went back south and I walked just past the driveway to check out the trees in the back yard. At about 5:10 the flycatcher came out of the treeline and perched on the wires south of the house. It was pretty distinctive at that distance, showing a white breast and pale face contrasting with dark wings. It hawked a dragonfly, then a grasshopper. We stayed about halfway between it and the house and had good scope views. It lingered for about 15 minutes, then flew into the very top of the tree line where it sat for a few minutes before it disappeared. Life bird for me.

I went up to the house and thanked the residents for their tolerance (they are quite friendly), and bought a watermelon for lunch tomorrow.

Other birds:
blue grosbeak
mourning dove
barn swallow
