MD Osprey:
I saw the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher briefly at 6:57 am this morning
(8/23/2009) at the previously described location in Sudlersville, MD.
I watched the bird for about one minute in the top of the large, tall
tree in the backyard. I went back to my car to get my scope and
camera and when I returned a few minutes later, I did not see the
bird, but there was a Cooper's Hawk sitting in the middle of the same
tree (at least it wasn't eating anything). I did not refind the bird
again before I left at 7:15.
Logistics: The location is 1421 Millington Road (MD Rt 313), which is
1.5 miles north of Route 300 in Sudlersville. The house is on the
west side of the road. As noted, the house is a mobile home and there
is a small vegetable stand in the front yard (basically a table).
There is also a red Camero for sale in the front yard. I saw the bird
in the large tree behind the house. If you stand north of the house,
you can see the tree better and you won't be staring directly at the
house. You can also stand south of the house and scope the tree. I
would suggest that people park either north or south of the house,
rather than directly in front and in view of the house. I did not
have any contact with the residents, but it was early. The yard is
"posted" for no trespassing. If anyone visits and the veggie stand is
open, I would suggest buying something, even if you don't need any.
Not sure why my Blackberry message from the location did not get out.
Hope this helps.
Phil
