Hi all --

A bit of a household emergency made us too late for Rock Creek today (the
traffic gets impossible after about 6:45!) so we opted to look at Brookside
Gardens and nearby sites in Wheaton Regional Park, Montgomery Co., instead.

The gardens are splendid and we saw numerous hummingbirds ( 8 or more) --
this looks like a good spot for a rare hummer later, as lots of blue Salvia
and other favorite plants -- but few other migrants until we went through
the gate over to Pine Lake. There we ran into, first, an active feeding
flock and later, another flock which was flying in and drinking and bathing
among low willows at the very top of the lake -- brilliant views of many
birds at eye level or below, like Monticello Park in VA! Ended up with 10
species of warbler, not too shabby.

Birds of interest seen:

Green Heron - 1
Eastern Wood-pewee - 1
LEAST FLYCATCHER - 1
Scarlet Tanager - 2
Red-eyed Vireo - 12
YELLOW THOATED VIREO - 2 (one at eye level)
Black-and-White Warbler - 2
BLACKBURNIAN - 1 (@ eye level!)
Black-throated Green - 3
BLUE-WINGED - 2
Chestnut-sided -2
Magnolia - 5
No. Parula - 1
Redstart - 2
TENNESSEE - 1 (@ eye level)
Common Yellowthroat - 1

Hopefully we will make it to Rock Creek tomorrow...
