After racking up over 100 hours of comp time in two weeks of field work in Maine, I decided to make it a 4 day weekend. Jane Kostenko and I went to our friend's beach cottage at Plum Point in Calvert to enjoy the great weather and pick fossil shark teeth. When we got there, there was a large assortment of loafing gulls and several Royal Terns feeding full sized "chicks". After scanning through the gull flock, I picked out a nice adult Lesser Black-backed Gull. It was quite cooperative and stood between an adult Herring Gull and an adult Great Black-backed Gull for comparison. I'm not sure if there is public access to Breezy Point, which is just across the inlet from Plum Point, but Plum Point residents are quite adamant about not letting non-residents on the beach.
