The Kite put on a good show from 11-12 this morning, appearing low to the
east and working its way gradually toward the main dike. It caught and ate
numerous dragonflies, which, by the way, were not high enough in the air
until after 10AM. Just before noon, after most of the 15-20 birders had left,
it made a pass down the dike, not more than 25 feet above the remaining
birders. When we left it was slowly working its way west and angling toward
the river. Other birds of note were Olive-sided and Alder Flycatchers and
Red-headed Woodpeckers.
This is the second day when the kite appeared well to the east and worked
its way westward. Yesterday it arrived at 10:15, today at about 11AM. My
suggestion for tomorrow would be to be on the dike by 10AM and wait for the
next show. Good luck.
