I just received the following e-mail that unfortunately was sent yesterday
to an old e-mail address of mine. An unidentified species of shrike was
spotted on Hart-Miller Island on Thursday by Rich Mason of the U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service. Either species would be a first for the island and
neither species was on my "Next 10 Birds of Hart-Miller Island" list. I
would like to document this bird on Saturday. Marcia and I had planned to
go to the Rosslyn Jazz Festival tomorrow but are changing our plans and will
be going to Hart-Miller Island instead.

If anyone is interested in looking for the shrike on Saturday, please e-mail
or call me tonight, or (410) 388-0852. You would have
to be at the boat dock by 6:45 a.m. at the latest. We will be on the island
until at least 3:00 p.m. or as late as 5:00 p.m.

Subject: HMI shrike sighting

Hi Gene,

I was at HMI today counting birds in the South Cell and saw a shrike perched
on the barbed wire around the equipment yard next to the office. Not sure
if you have seen it or if you want to look next time you are on the island.
I assume it was a loggerhead but was not close enough to see the finer field
marks. It flew around the back side as I was getting the scope on it and I
did not locate it again.
