I was pleasantly surprised on my run this morning around 8 am to see a large bird swoop down next to a bush with

sparrows.  It was a Cooper's Hawk, sitting on the ground with his wings and tail spread out.  Not a usual occasion considering he was near the intersection of River Road and Western Avenue in Chevy Chase.
