FYI: The Goshawk was seen where Walter Martz Rd, crosses Tuscarora Creek
(search "Walter Martz Rd, Frederick, MD" on Mapquest) - about 4 miles NNW of
Frederick center.
My continued vigilance this afternoon was rewarded by 8 Common Nighthawks
heading N (!) at 5PM.

house north of Frederick (off Walter Martz Road). Both times it was being
chased by a flock of crows - which the resident Cooper's, Red-shouldered and
Red-tails (all seen almost daily from my house) don't seem to bother. It was
considerably bigger then the crows. Interestingly, I'm pretty sure I saw the
same bird 3 weeks ago - that time it was brief and I didn't have my binoculars
to hand. Likely a post breeding disperser from not too far - somewhere in
southern PA? A bit too early for migrants from further afield. Note that I'm
100% certain of the ID - had plenty of experience of this species in the UK and
several times at breeding sites in PA.
