Subject: Poplar Island Sightings from September 14, 2009
This report is submitted on behalf of Jan Reese of Talbot County, who
continues to periodically survey the flora and fauna of the Paul Sarbanes
Ecosystem Restoration Project at Poplar Island.
Some of the birds were seen from the boat during the trip from
Tilghman Island and back.
Note particularly the presence of Tri-colored Herons, Green-winged
Teal (many), American Golden Plover and Marbled Godwit; also many Avocets,
one Baird's Sandpiper and some White-rumped Sandpipers. The survey this
time was aided by the sharp eyes of a set of birders participating in a
Poplar Island visit that had been organized by Gail Mackiernan and Barry
Cooper of Montgomery County.
