Hi all --

I feel a little bad about posting this bird since I think everyone missed it
but us. We had left the Nature Center parking lot to go to Military Field
(aka the Dog Run) but saw that a large group of birders was already tromping
around there. Opting to go somewhere else away from the crowds, we returned
to the Nature Center and had a good look around there, the stable area,
horse paddock and various edges. We did not add any migrants of note (one BT
Blue, one or two Yellowthroats, a BT Green) when we saw a large,
short-tailed, big-headed flycatcher on a dead snag. This was very suggestive
and luckily the bird cooperated, flying out and back but never away, and
working close we confirmed it to be an OLIVE-SIDED FC, the only one we have
seen this year at Rock Creek! It was on a dead snag best seen from the horse
trail as it enters the woods, just about at the junction with the longer
trail over to the Maintenance Yard.
