MD and DC Birders,

Not being able to make it out to Rock Creek Park, DC either morning this weekend, I settled for a quick mid day check of the Maintenance Yard from 12:00 to 1:30. Best bird by far was a PHILADELPHIA VIREO seen right after the fence line before the actual yard. It was mildly interested in my pishing yet popped right down and provided wonderful looks when I pulled out my not-so-great Screech-Owl imitation. It was the best study I have ever had of this fall migrant. Great bird! There was also a Red-eyed Vireo in the vicinity.

Other birds included: Swainson's Thrush, Veery, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Scarlet Tanager, Eastern Phoebe and Cooper's Hawk. I was amazed to find no warblers. You have to work hard to spend time at the Maintenance Yard in late September and see zero warblers..... Anyway, the Philly Vireo definitely made up for this. I hope everyone had a good weekend.
